Trail Edition and TRD Pro: two enhanced variants for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma

Trail Edition and TRD Pro: two enhanced variants for the 2022 Toyota Tacoma

Toyota never ceases to amaze us. While it could leave its Tacoma model unchanged, because it still sells well, it continues to improve its offering so that its customers never feel taken for granted.

That's why two improved variants are on the menu for 2022. Two models that have special vocations and offer something unique to enthusiasts. Let's see what nice surprises they have in store for us.

TRD Pro

The TRD Pro version is based on the TRD Off-Road 4x4 double cab model. The new version sees its suspension raised by 28 mm at the front and 13 at the rear. It receives new TRD aluminum suspension arms. The addition of these arms allows the FOX shocks to have more travel by adjusting the angle of the ball joint. This will allow you to tackle rougher terrain with confidence.

Speaking of angles of attack, they will be 36.4, 26.6 and 24.7 degrees for entry, crossing and exit of obstacles, respectively. The model also offers the multi terrain monitor that shows the different angles captured by the cameras located at the front, on the sides and at the rear. This tool helps avoid hitting rocks or obstacles that are otherwise invisible from inside the cab.

The TRD Pro model will be very recognizable with unique wheels, as well as body-color matching bumpers, door handles and mirror caps. Its logos are also new and the one on the tailgate will make the letters TRD PRO very clear.

Trail Edition

The Trail Edition is based on the SR5 4x4 Crew Cab model. The latter also has a higher suspension, also by 28 and 13 mm, respectively for the front and rear. And don't look for the air intake of the SR5 model; the focus here is on ground clearance. As a result, the Trail Edition also offers interesting angles for attacking, crossing and exiting obstacles, at 34.6, 23.6 and 26.4 degrees.

The vehicle will also benefit from redesigned 16-inch wheels in bronze. Goodyear tires designed for off-road driving will be included, as well as a rear differential that can be locked. As for the exterior colors, they will guarantee immediate recognition: Lunar Rock and Khaki Green.

Interestingly, the Class IV towing package is standard with this version, allowing you to tow loads up to 6400 pounds. A 120V power outlet is also included in the bed, as is a lockable storage area, which is always handy.

Powertrains

Both versions benefit from Toyota's 3.5-litre V6 engine, which delivers 278 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque. It should be noted that with the TRD Pro livery, the six-speed manual transmission can be paired with this engine. Otherwise, you get the company's own six-speed automatic transmission, which has proven its worth over the years.

To discover these models a little closer, a visit to the dealership is a must.
