Are there any two cars with as intense a rivalry on the market as the Toyota Corolla and the Honda Civic? Probably not. And it's not about to fade away, as the redesign of Honda's representative for 2022 has added fuel to the fire.
However, the quality of the Corolla means that it has nothing to fear, especially since it has a few strings to its bow.
Let's see how it fares against the newly redesigned one
The price
Anyone interested in a compact car wants to have the choice of going for a model that offers excellent value for money. While quality is present in both Honda and Toyota, the price advantage goes to Toyota, as the new Civic's base MSRP is very high.
Specifically, you'll have to shell out $24,465 to get your hands on the entry-level Civic model. At Toyota, the L variant is offered at $19,450.
The manual transmission
We've always associated driving pleasure with the Civic rather than the Corolla. Well, the roles are now reversed, as the Toyota is still available with a six-speed manual transmission, whether you opt for the sedan or the hatchback. The Civic sedan, on the other hand, will not have a powertrain for 2022, and it will only be offered with the 5-door model.
Hybrid
Honda has already offered its Civic in hybrid configuration, but it wasn't a success. Thus, this version is no longer available in the catalog. In the Corolla family, a hybrid version is suggested and its average fuel consumption is enough to make any competitor blush, including the Civic. With 4.5 L/100 km, it's impossible to find a better car.
The Honda Civic is still an interesting car, but it's as if Honda has forgotten who it's for. At Toyota, we always know who our clientele is, those looking for options and the best buy on the market.
