The Toyota Highlander enters this model year with exceptional capabilities, efficiency and power. Overall, the lineup offers three hybrid and four gas-only trims with eight-passenger capability. This moves the Highlander up in its class with features that surpass the competition. To illustrate, we compare the Highlander to the 2020 Chevrolet Blazer.
The 2020 Toyota Highlander reigns supreme in efficiency
The Highlander lineup features two engines, gasoline and hybrid, that create excitement for owners. The gas-only engine consists of a 3.5L six-cylinder that generates 295 horsepower and 263 lb-ft of torque. It earns a respectable fuel consumption rating of 11.7 L/100 km in the city and 8.6 L/100km on the highway. The 243-horsepower hybrid achieves the best fuel efficiency between all Highlander and Blazer models. With a consumption rating of 6.7/6.8 L/100 km (city/highway), it leaves everything else far behind.
The Blazer offers three gas-only engine choices. Two are much less powerful than the Highlander, including a 230-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder and a 2.5L four-cylinder that reaches just 193 horsepower. The Blazer’s most powerful offering is a 308-horsepower 3.6L six-cylinder that is only accessible on premium trims. The Highlander’s standard gas-only engine is in a similar power range and available on all trims (except the hybrid).
The 2020 Toyota Highlander is fantastically more spacious
Inside, you’ll discover the Highlander opens up a new world of roomy comfort for you and your family. Cargo volume from the first row to the rear of the cabin is a commanding 2,38 7L. The Blazer falls short on this aspect, providing only 1,818 L of volume behind the front seats. Behind the second row, the Highlander offers a generous 1,371 L versus the Blazer’s anemic 864 L.
The extra volume in the Highlander translates into greater passenger comfort. For starters, the Highlander features up to 79 of additional mm of front headroom and 26 mm more front leg room. It doesn’t stop there, either. Rear head and leg room increase by 66 and 35 mm, respectively, over the Blazer.
The Highlander’s eight-passenger capability exceeds the five-passenger capacity of the Blazer. Three available rows accommodate your growing family, friends and more. When you don’t need the third bench, you can just fold it to create more cargo space for any adventure.
